Mumbai: The Mumbai Police has claimed to have exposed the TV rating racket and has got the names of a total of three TV channels, one of which is Republic TV. Mumbai Police Commissioner Paramvir Singh himself revealed this racket at a press conference. This is happening for the first time in TV history. The police commissioner himself organized a Press Conference to reveal the serious case of rigging in television rating points. Paramvir Singh has accused the involvement of three channels in this racket, of which Republic TV is the biggest name. The Mumbai Police Commissioner claimed that the owners of two smaller channels, Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema, have been arrested and Republic TV is under investigation.
India Today’s name is also there in the Mumbai Police’s FIR. But the police have clarified that ‘India Today is named in the FIR but no accused or witness has authenticated it. In contrast, the accused and witnesses have specifically named Republic TV, Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema. The entire investigation of the case is going on.’
According to the police, on receiving information about the fake rating racket, the person named Vishal Bhandari was first caught. Vishal has been an employee of Hansa, the agency working for the TRP agency BARC, and he knew where the barometers were installed. Along with the other accused Sanju Rao, he started a game of fake rating. Going to the house where the barometer was installed, he lured them to pay 400 rupees a month to watch Republic TV and the other two channels.
